Gymnast Georgia-Mae Fenton on her European Championships call-up

00:00, 13 July 2018

Commonwealth champion Georgia-Mae Fenton is ready to go to the next level at the European Championships.

The 17-year-old from Gravesend will represent Great Britain at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow next month.

Fenton heads to Scotland buoyed by her gold medal success on bars on the Gold Coast but knows this will be something else.

She said: "It is quite a big step up because we've got Russia, Romania and Germany who are all really good teams.

"I had a week off after the Commonwealths and then it was straight back into work. I've had to upgrade my routines to make them harder.

"My routines were pretty well set but for the Europeans, to have a chance of making a final and potentially medalling, upgrades were needed.

"It's a lot of hard work because you're used to performing the routine in a certain way and then you've got to add in different skills.

"Stamina-wise it's harder because there's more in the routine but once all the hard work's put in, it does eventually put off.

"Preparation is going well. I'm just working on my routines to solidify them and making sure they're nice and clean and ready to perform when I get to Glasgow."

Winning gold in Australia has given Fenton the confidence she needs to take on Europe's best.

"I know that I can do well and I am a medal contender," she said. "I've just got to make sure I keep up the hard work so it happens again.

"The main target is to do well as a team and hopefully qualify for the bars and beam finals.

"The home crowd's going to be amazing. It's something that me and the rest of the team are all looking forward to; getting out there in front of the home crowd and doing them all proud."
