A tennis club is serving up award-winning lessons for their members after they hired a new head coach.
Gravesham Tennis Club, based off Milton Road at Gravesend Rugby Club, have revealed the appointment of Thomas Martin-Jarvis, who was just crowned Performance Coach-of-the-Year by Kent Tennis.
Martin-Jarvis is an LTA Level 4 Senior Performance Coach and also works with players at Kent county level, captaining the Kent under-14 boys’ squad and vice-captaining the under-18 squad.
It's something of a homecoming for Martin-Jarvis. He played for the club’s men’s team in his late teens. He returns, aged 30, to lead the coaching programme at his former club which this year celebrates 100 years of tennis and is offering a range of special centenary joining deals.
Martin-Jarvis said: “I’m delighted to join my local club, Gravesham Tennis Club, as the head coach.
“I know the club and their members have massive potential, and I’m excited to be a part of delivering on that.”
Chairman John Stevenson added: “We’re proud to have a coach with Tom’s impressive credentials join us. It’s an incredibly exciting time at Gravesham Tennis Club, as we celebrate a century of tennis and develop plans to move forward.
“Coaching of the highest quality will be a crucial part of our offering to members - now is the perfect time to come and join us.”

The Gravesham area was well represented in this year’s Kent Seniors Singles and Doubles Finals.
Held at Bromley Tennis Centre, the Finals were the culmination of a competition that began last October with 166 competitors aged between 40 and 80.
The men’s 45s Final featured Maidstone’s James Kidner up against Roberto Melchiorre, the Meopham man winning the first set 6-1 before taking a closer second set 6-4.
Paul Absalom from Maidstone lost a close 65s Final against Adrian Youseman from Hartley 7-6, 6-4, while in the men’s doubles, the 65s of Robert Andrew (Knoll) and Robin Garratt (Oakwood) defeated Canterbury duo James De Sausmarez and Andrew Loft 6-3,6-2.
