Ebbsfleet United hoping to sign at least one new player before trip to FC Halifax Town

Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon is confident of adding to his squad this week.

There could be a couple of new faces in the Fleet squad which travels to play FC Halifax Town on Saturday, McMahon revealed after the 1-0 win over Solihull Moors.

Luke Coulson's winner was Ebbsfleet's first goal in five games and strengthening his forward line remains a priority for McMahon.

He said: "I'm hoping, this week, we might add another player to the squad, which will give us another attacking option, which is good news to help the players in the run-in.

"We've got one or two ticking along that we hope to get done before Halifax - at least one, which we're fairly confident about."

Boreham Wood re-signed Morgan Ferrier from Dagenham & Redbridge this week while Maidstone have brought in Dean Beckwith, Ross Lafayette and Blair Turgott on loan.

"They've signed some good loan players," said McMahon when asked about his own policy on loan signings. "Lafayette's a good player but is he better than Danny Kedwell? In my opinion, no, and he's a similar sort of player.

"They've signed Blair Turgott, another good player, but I've got Myles Weston, Luke Coulson and Sean Shields. Is he better than them? It's just another body. The person that comes in has to get in the starting XI or there's no point.

"We tried to get Brandon Hanlan on loan from Charlton but he chose to go to Bromley because they're higher in the table and because he's been there before. He's the only loan player we've really gone for.

"I've been out to Charlton, Palace, West Ham and we tried to get another player on loan from Tottenham but some players want to go to the Football League.

"Loaning from other teams in this division is an option but if it's not a player that will go into the team and be something totally different to what we've got, then what's the point? It's another body that might not be used and is not going to affect the XI. I don't think that's right."

Fleet climbed two places to 10th in the National League with victory over Solihull.

McMahon said: "We gave a good performance in the first half in the sense of stifling them. They've got a good attacking three and we'd lost our last two league games 3-0 so it was important to get in at half-time with a zero and being competitive, which we were.

"We asked them, in the second half, to kick on a little bit with the quality we've got and I thought we did. We had a couple of good chances off the back of the goal and it was a good win."

A double substitution midway through the second half helped change the game in Ebbsfleet's favour with Coulson and Andy Drury, the players sent on, both having an impact.

McMahon said: "It's important when a game's level that you've got players who are flexible to come on and change the shape straight away and give the opposition something different to think about.

"It's hard as a manager sometimes, when someone changes shape during a half, to react to that. We brought on two players that are not bad either, in Jukebox and and Coulson.

"My biggest gripe with Luke is that we don't see that quality enough. He's super talented, and I mean super talented, and now he needs to really kick on from this because he can.

"He's got real ability and it was a great goal. We see that goal every day in training but it's probably the first time we've seen it properly this season here. Hopefully that's the catalyst for him to kick on."
