Ebbsfleet United winger Anthony Cook feels like he's come home after leaving Bromley for a second spell at the club

Fans favourite Anthony Cook described his sensational return to Ebbsfleet United this week as a homecoming.

Cook has left Bromley to start a second spell with the Fleet, where he made a lasting impression with explosive displays on the wing between 2013 and 2015.

The 26-year-old was one of several players let go by Jamie Day midway through last season but he never wanted to leave.

And when Cook walked back into Stonebridge Road for training on Tuesday morning, he knew he’d made the right decision.

He said: "Ebbsfleet has always felt like home so it’s like slotting straight back in. It feels like I never left.

"Walking back in, it just felt right, like I’d made the right decision.

"It wasn’t easy leaving Bromley because I’ve got a good relationship with the manager, Mark Goldberg and I made a lot of good friends there.

"The gaffer told me there was contact from Ebbsfleet and they’d made a bid for me. He asked my opinion and I said I was happy at Bromley but that if they wanted to negotiate a deal, I’d like to have that conversation with Ebbsfleet.

"The negotiations were going on for a while and there were a few things happening off the pitch but it came together in the last few days.

"I was given permission to speak to Ebbsfleet when the two clubs agreed a fee."

Cook knew he would have to give up his day job with Sports On Screen to make the move back across Kent.

But he said: "That didn’t seem like a big call. I had a conversation with my dad and he asked me how I felt about the situation.

"My heart was telling me to go back to Ebbsfleet even though I was enjoying my football and having a good time at Bromley."
