Darren McQueen is a step closer to earning himself a deal at Ebbsfleet United.

The trialist scored a fine goal in Fleet's 5-0 win at Deal Town on Saturday before netting twice against Dartford in the Ryan Hayes testimonial at Princes Park on Sunday.

McQueen trained with Ebbsfleet at Kings Hill on Monday and will spend the rest of this week with Daryl McMahon's squad.

McMahon said: "He’s done well so far. Monday was his first training day, we literally brought him in Saturday and Sunday.

"To have not met any of the players and not trained with any of the players, he’s shown a good head on young shoulders. He’s come in and been confident, worked hard, shown a good attitude and shown good quality as well. He’ll be with us this week.

"He started at Spurs, was there until he was a YTS and then went to Ipswich for a year. Now he’s at Colchester.

"I know a few people who work at Colchester and he did well last year at Maldon & Tiptree on loan. Colchester have got a feeder club, their under-21s play at Maldon & Tiptree so he scored 20-odd goals last year for Maldon from left wing.

"They’re looking to get him at a higher level so I had a phone call at the end of last season and I thought we could have a look at him."

However, the other trialist to feature for Ebbsfleet over the weekend hasn't made the grade.

Swansea youngster Brandon Griffiths got himself into good positions without scoring and McMahon has seen enough.

He said: "He’s not ready to play at this level yet so he’s gone back now, he won’t be with us any more.

"He came in, didn’t really train with us, did the game on Saturday and played 45 on Sunday.

"He’s a young player with ability and talent but I don’t think he’s at the same level yet as Darren in terms of know-how and streetwise. You can already see Darren’s played men’s football."
