Boreham Wood 0 Gravesend and N 2
GRAVESEND & Northfleet kept the pressure up at the top of the Ryman Premier Division with a competent victory at Boreham Wood at the weekend. The visitors got off to the prefect start and took the lead after only five minutes when Jimmy Jackson's speculative lob drifted over the home goalkeeper Noel Imber and into the net.
A major talking point took place after 18 minutes when Fleet goalkeeper Jamie Turner upended Boreham's recent loan signing Damien Markman on the edge of the box. With a red card seeming inevitable, the referee showed he had some Christmas good will and displayed just a yellow card, much to the shock of the home players, supporters and management team.
Turner rarely looked like conceding a goal for the rest of the match and it was little surprise that the away side doubled their advantage with 19 minutes remaining when Steve McKimm latched onto a long ball before beating Imber with a cool finish.
The Fleet, who remain in second place in the league table - three points behind Canvey Island, face the second of three away games over the Christmas period as they travel to Purfleet on Boxing Day.
