The promise of attractive football and the chance to fight for promotion were behind Anthony Cook’s decision to sign for Ebbsfleet.
The 23-year-old winger was in contact with Fleet boss Steve Brown throughout his trial period at Colchester United earlier this summer.
And when he was told he hadn’t earned a contract with the Essex club, Cook accepted Brown’s offer of Conference South football at Stonebridge Road.
He said: “I met Browny in the summer and we’ve been speaking throughout the summer.
“He’s been on to me, wanting me to sign for a long time.
“Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out at Colchester. The gaffer wanted to sign me but the way it was financially set up, I couldn’t really sign. Once I knew nothing was going to happen at Colchester, I rang him straight away and said ‘yes, I’ll come down’.
“I know the club’s looking to go places; the way we’re trying to play football, what we’re trying to do.
“For me personally and as a team, it will work well. I want to be part of something successful and I felt that this was the best place to come.”
