Ebbsfleet's first half display against Maidenhead on Saturday had manager Daryl McMahon purring.

They picked up the pace after a slow start and went 2-0 up through goals from Matt Godden and Jordan Parkes.

With John Paul Kissock pulling the strings in midfield, Fleet were a joy to watch.

McMahon said: "I thought in the first half we were excellent.

"We played some really good football in the first half, moving the ball really well through midfield. I thought Kissock was excellent in the first half and we were pleased with the performance at half-time.

"They put us under a lot of pressure at the start of the second half and we probably lacked a little bit of intensity that we had in the first half but credit to Maidenhead as well, they put us under pressure.

"They pressed us higher up the pitch and we’ve got to recognise that we have been pressed higher up the pitch and we might have to go a little bit longer to relieve that pressure.

"Obviously got their their goal but after 65 or 70 minutes, we took control of the game again and could have got a couple more goals. It was a good win in the end."

The game was in the balance midway through the second half, Dave Tarpey having halved Ebbsfleet's lead, and McMahon was ready to make changes.

He had Robbie Willmott and Danny Haynes ready to come on for Parkes and Godden but left them on the field just long enough to combine for Ebbsfleet's third goal from a free-kick.

McMahon said: "I just thought Parkes’ delivery (is good) and Godden is that poacher. He hung up in the air well and he’s dangerous from set plays, Matty Godden, very dangerous from set plays and he scored from two of them.

"I just thought ‘we’ll see where this ends up and then we can make the subs after that'."
