Ford: Our spirit may be key to winning title

00:00, 29 November 2001

GRAVESEND & Northfleet manager Andy Ford believes his side's dreams of winning the Ryman League's Premier Division title are in their own hands. Second-placed Fleet are three points behind big spending leaders Canvey Island with one game in hand.

The leading pair, who both won again last Saturday, have yet to meet this season. Ford said: "We have just got to do one game at a time. Canvey are a very good side and the finance they have got over there is enormous, particularly now they have got more money from a televised game in the next round of the FA Cup.

"Financially we can's compete with them, but there are a lot of managers out there in our league that would dearly love us to win it. That is because we are not one of the big boys and haven't got masses of money, but we have got is a great little club with a lot of spirit."

Ford believes it is important for Fleet to have a big squad if they are to sustain a title challenge.

He said: "We have got some people on the bench who would walk into most teams and I have got to try to keep them happy. We have got some massive games coming up between now and the beginning of January. I need a big squad and we need to keep everyone happy, fit and on their toes."
