Free entry when Ebbsfleet United play Weston-super-Mare in Vanarama National League South

00:00, 22 September 2015

You can watch free-scoring Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday night without paying a penny.

The club are letting supporters in free of charge when they host Weston-super-Mare in a rearranged Vanarama National League South fixture at Stonebridge Road.

Floodlight failure forced the original meeting between the sides, on August 18, to be abandoned at half-time with the Fleet leading 2-0.

Since then, Daryl McMahon's side have recorded seven wins and a draw to move six points clear at the top of the table. They're averaging two goals a game and won 4-1 at Havant on Saturday.

Their record of 28 points from a possible 30 is the best in the top seven divisions of English football and Fleet know victory over Weston will increase their advantage to nine points, with no other games in the division on Tuesday.

Ebbsfleet vice-chairman Peter Varney is hoping to welcome a bumper crowd.

He said: "It’s nice to be winning but the one thing people are saying to me is that what they’re seeing this season is an unbelievably committed group of players.

"I’ve been involved with three promotion sides and one of the things the teams have in common is the team spirit has to be good for you to be a promotion side. This side is as good as anything I’ve been involved in.

"They all look after one another’s backs and they’re working their socks off but more than that is the brand of football. For this level, I defy anybody not to say that this is as entertaining as you might get if you went higher up the football structure.

"You’re always getting goals here and they’re creating masses of chances in a game.

"We hope that by making it free and with no (fixture) programme that night, there may be other people come along and take a look at us."

Fleet's average home gate so far this season is 955 and there were 1,023 - a season's best - inside Stonebridge Road for the Weston game before the lights went out.

Mr Varney said: "I think it would have gone over 1,000 against Sutton last Tuesday but we had a couple of things against us. When the Champions League is on live and there’s a full league programme, people have choice and I do think the word takes a while to get round.

"There were a lot of moans and groans coming off the terraces previously, which we don’t hear now. In fact, the crowd have been singing both from behind the goal and on the side. The more they do that, the more they inspire the players.

"I think you’ll start to see the crowds go up gradually. Don’t forget, we’ve had three Kent derbies away, so those crowds - if not more - will come here so that’ll push the average up as well."
