Ebbsfleet’s search for a new striker has reached the Far East.

Manager Garry Hill has spent another week on the phone trying to bring in a pacy forward who can run in behind.

Josh Umerah and Gozie Ugwu both got off the mark over the Bank Holiday weekend but Hill still wants a different option up front.

And he’s casting his net wide in the hope of getting his man.

Hill said: “We’re getting a group of defenders who are experienced and competitive.

“We’ve got midfield players at the club now where we’ve added a little bit more in there and we’ve just got to add a little bit more up top.

“Whether that means one or two players going out on loan in time to get games, we’ll have to take a view.

“There are always phone calls, all the time – even as far out as Thailand.”

Ebbsfleet will be aiming to record back-to-back wins for the first time since March when they host Aldershot in a crunch game on Saturday.

They’re just a point behind the Shots, who are captained by former Fleet midfielder Dean Rance, after ending their winless run with a 2-1 success at Boreham Wood on Monday.

Hill said: “If you don’t get on the board quick in this league it becomes a long, hard winter.

“As the manager of a football team, you carry responsibility. It’s a results business even though you’d like to hope common sense prevails.

“You look at the situation with what’s gone on and what you’re trying to build. It was always going to be a massive weekend, Notts County at home and Boreham Wood away.

“Everyone was looking at it and saying ‘hello, where’s the situation going to be this week, where are Ebbsfleet going to be, what are they going to take out of the weekend on the pitch and off it?’

“Let’s be level-headed about the situation. Everybody at the football club is understanding and been very good but it will take a bit of time.”
