Ebbsfleet will be 90 minutes away from an FA Cup glamour tie if they can see off Skrill South rivals Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

Steve Brown’s side go into the third qualifying round tie as favourites and are in good form after a 3-1 win over Eastleigh on Tuesday, although their 1-0 victory over lowly Folkestone in the last round was far from convincing.

And with the potential to play Wolves, Sheffield United or Gillingham if they reach the first round proper, Brown has reminded his players exactly what’s at stake.

He said: "Some people in football think that cup games are a time to relax but I think the cup is the time to put on a show.

"I expect players to want to progress, to get excited about getting through and excited about the draw.

"The message I try to get across is that it’s a chance to pit your wits against players who are playing League football. Why wouldn’t you want that?"

Daryl McMahon’s early goal proved to be the winner against Folkestone two weeks ago but the Fleet couldn’t kill the game off.

Brown said: "I made sure, after the game, the players understood the gravity of allowing a side back into an FA Cup tie.

"It’s not a league game, so you can’t dust yourself down and have another go."
