Returning defender Yado Mambo must prove his fitness before Ebbsfleet will offer the former Charlton man a contract.

Mambo turned up at Fleet training last week, five months after manager Steve Brown first declared his interest in bringing the 22-year-old back to Stonebridge Road.

A big hit during his loan spell at Ebbsfleet the season before last, Mambo underwent a knee operation in the summer after being released by Charlton and hasn’t played any competitive football since.

Brown said: "We’ve been in contact with Yado for a long time but we were never quite sure what his situation was.

"He walked in last week, trained with us and I like what I see. We have, however, got to protect ourselves a little bit because he’s off the back of an operation.

"He's signed on and there is an opportunity (for him) to stay here this season and next. But that’s going to be judged on whether he gets through the training and matches with that knee.

"If he comes out of that with flying colours, there’s a contract there for Yado."

Saturday's game at Concord Rangers will probably come too soon for Mambo, although Fleet skipper Paul Lorraine (groin) is expected to be fit.
