Ebbsfleet have been told to be more ruthless if they want to turn their draws into wins.

Six draws in a row and seven from eight games this season have Fleet sitting 15th in the National League.

They go to Chester on Saturday still looking for their first away victory of the season but manager Daryl McMahon isn’t reading much into the early league table.

He said: "You can’t assess it. We’re one win out of eight – seven draws – and we’re six points off the top of the table.

"That shows you everyone’s beating everyone – apart from us.

"It’s not about being frustrated, we’re in a new division and we’ve shown we can compete but we probably could be slightly higher.

"As the season goes on, we need to evolve and be more ruthless and clinical in what we do. Bear in mind we’ve done all this without some big players and big characters.

"I’m happy with how we’re going, we just need to get that elusive win and a clean sheet would be nice as well."

Ebbsfleet’s 2-2 draw with Eastleigh on Saturday extended their unbeaten run to 32 league games and it was the sixth time this season they’ve come from behind to earn a point.

McMahon said: "We’re right among it and know we can get stronger as we go on in the sense of players improving and players coming back from injuries to strengthen the squad.

"From my team last year, we’re without three of the back four. We can’t get away from that.

"Chris Bush and Yado Mambo have come in and done great but that was a huge part of our team last year in terms of keeping clean sheets.

"We’ve also been without Myles Weston and Andy Drury, who are two excellent players at this level."

Kenny Clark, Jack Connors and Bradley Bubb have all been running as they get closer to fitness while Dean Rance is now back from his knee injury.

The midfielder made his first appearance of the season last Saturday, coming off the bench at half-time to replace Luke Coulson.

McMahon said: "He gives you more balance and bite in the middle of the pitch.

"You’ve got Powell, Payne and Drury, who are all easier on the eye with the ball but Dean does a big job for the team in terms of breaking play up.

"He’s totally different to all of them, better in the air, wins the ball back better and he’s a big player for us."
