Former Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon has landed himself a job in the Football League.

The 35-year-old has succeeded Sol Campbell as the new head coach of Macclesfield Town, who are fourth in League 2.

McMahon is back in work nine months after leaving Fleet by mutual consent.

McMahon, the former Dover midfielder, joined Ebbsfleet as a player in 2013 and was appointed manager two years later.

After losing to Maidstone in the 2016 play-off final, he led Fleet to promotion and followed that up with a run to the National League play-off semi-finals.

McMahon left Stonebridge Road in November 2018 after a poor run of results and with details emerging of the club's financial difficulties.

He said: "I'm delighted to be here. It's a club in the Football League and it's a great opportunity for me.

"Macclesfield actually approached Ebbsfleet for me last summer, which was rejected, so there's been interest in me for quite a long time.

"After Sol left on Thursday, I had a call and it happened very quickly from there.

"I've played here and I've managed against Macclesfield as well.

"It's a nice club, a family club, a nice environment, a nice atmosphere around the place and there are good young players which is attractive for a manager to work with and help them."

McMahon's first game in charge of Macclesfield will be the visit of Morecambe on Tuesday night.

He will be assisted by Steve Gritt, who also worked alongside him at the Fleet, and Danny Whitaker. McMahon has agreed a deal until the end of this season.

The Silkmen made an approach for ex-Maidstone boss Jay Saunders last summer but he chose to stay at the Gallagher Stadium.

However, Saunders was out of a job weeks later and later told the KM Football Podcast he regretted his decision not to accept Macclesfield's offer.
