Leading scorer Dominic Poleon will get enough chances to break the 40-goal barrier this season, according to Dennis Kutrieb.
Hotshot Poleon took his National League South tally to 32 with a stunning winner in last Saturday’s televised victory at Slough.
BT Sport claimed post-match that the record in that division stands at 40 goals, although Dave Tarpey is reported to have scored 44 goals in 41 games when Maidenhead won the title in 2016/17.
Fleet boss Kutrieb believes how many more goals Poleon adds will be down to his mentality.
“If he thinks we’re promoted and he’s done enough then he won’t get to 40 goals, but if he thinks I really want to go for it and beat it, then he definitely will have the chance.
“We have six games left and I would back him to say he can score eight goals in six games. But it’s down to his approach, he will get the chances to score, let’s put it that way.
“It’s not something you can achieve every day. As I know him, it’s definitely something he will want to achieve. You need to have a few things come together for him to score 8-10 goals in the last six games but it’s definitely possible.”
Poleon took the man-of-the-match honours again by netting at Slough, although he headed wide early on and also hit the post from close range.
“It’s down to hard work and as I’ve said to you so many times he has definitely changed his approach to the game,” reflected Kutrieb.
“He has the quality to score goals as we saw last season. It was one of his best goals of the season but it’s not like I’m running out of words because he should score a header in the first half and he should score the cutback as well.”
It was a rare strike from outside the penalty area for the predatory Poleon, but Kutrieb believes that’s down to the Fleet’s dominance in games this season.
“That’s because he’s most of the time in the box because we have the ball most of the time,” said Kutrieb.
“This was more or less a transition where he was alone but he took it very well.
“It was an important goal for us being the winner, but most of the time he’s in the box and that’s the reason why he rarely scores from outside the box.”
Poleon is certainly a lucky charm when it comes to scoring for the Fleet. He’s netted in 35 games for Ebbsfleet, with his side going on to win 34 of them!
