Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon happy with their position but would like to have won more games recently

00:00, 17 March 2016

Ebbsfleet are seven games from promotion after emerging undefeated from what boss Daryl McMahon believes has been one of their toughest periods of the season.

Eight games in a month – including four lengthy away trips – tested the National League South leaders, who have now played all of their evening midweek fixtures.

Fleet are unbeaten in 10 games although they’ve won just one of their last six, leaving McMahon with mixed feelings.

He said: "I’m happy with where we are. We could have more points but every team in the league would probably say that.

"There’s times in the season where we could have maybe held on to a win or nicked a win but we’re happy with where we’re at.

"We’d like to win more, obviously. We’ve been in positions to win more but we’ve been through a difficult period as well in terms of the games we’ve had. We’ve been to Truro, Oxford, Maidenhead and Bath and we’ve done Saturday-Tuesday for four weeks.

"We’ve been through a difficult time in terms of the fixtures and the travelling we’ve had to do.

"They’ve got to go through that now, (title rivals) Maidstone and Sutton, what we’ve just been through.

"We’ve got through it unbeaten. We probably should have picked up more points, maybe could have won a couple more but it has been a difficult period."

Fleet boast the league’s second-best defence (28), although five teams – including Saturday’s visitors Hemel Hempstead – have scored more goals in the league so far.

McMahon said: "We’ve shown how determined we are to win games.

"Anyone that watches us, probably barring the last two when we haven’t been at our best, attacking-wise, will know we go on the front foot.

"It’s about taking your chances, getting goals and creating chances when you’re on top with the ball.

"We had a period (last Tuesday) at Maidenhead in the first half where we totally dominated territory but we didn’t create enough for the amount of ball we had in good areas.

"It was similar on Saturday (at Bath), until the last 20 minutes when we brought Kissock, Parkes and Sheringham on.

"We had a spell of having five shots in 10 minutes, whereas prior to that, we probably didn’t have five shots in 60 minutes."

Leading scorer Matt Godden (hamstring) is a doubt for Saturday but he’s expected back for the Good Friday trip to Weston-super-Mare.

Centre-half Tom Bonner and winger Anthony Cook are still suspended, although full-back Matt Fish has served his three-match ban.
