Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon believes his side are still developing despite their fantastic start

They may be nine points clear at the top of the league but manager Daryl McMahon believes his Ebbsfleet side can get even better.

Fleet laboured to a 2-1 win over Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday night and that followed a 4-1 crushing of promotion rivals Havant on Saturday.

They’ve won six in a row and 10 of their 11 games so far in Vanarama National League South, dropping just two points.

But McMahon said: "We’re still evolving. I know you might look at the points and the games we’ve won so far and think “is there really more to come?” but I think there is.

"We haven’t become a 90-minute team yet. We’ve played terrific in spells and that’s got us our goals but I still think there’s a little bit more to come.

"We still are a young team. We’ve been together as a group for three or four months so we’ve still got loads to go, for me.

"We’ve attacked every game to go and win it and we’ll continue to do that.

"To have the run we’ve gone on is testament to the players. Their desire to win games of football is incredible.

"They train excellent every day and they’ve got a real drive about them to go and achieve something this season.

"We’ve got to carry on. It’s still September and we are going to have times when we don’t win games of football.

"We’ve started the season brilliantly, we’re there to be shot at like we always are and we’ll hopefully continue what we’ve been doing."

Fleet take a break from the league on Saturday when they visit league rivals Chelmsford in the FA Cup.

McMahon could give Adam Cunnington, Anthony Acheampong and Danny Haynes their first starts of the season in the second qualifying round tie at Melbourne Park.

He said: "We may make some changes because there’s lads here who haven’t got enough playing time and need more.

"Whatever team I pick on Saturday, it’ll be a good side because we’ve got great players sitting on the bench that haven’t played yet.

"It’ll be a tough game. Billy Bricknell’s there who we know well. They’ve had a good start as well, Chelmsford, they’ve brought in some good players and it’ll be a difficult tie for us."

Ebbsfleet full-back Aiden Palmer remains on loan at Chelmsford but can't play against his parent club on Saturday.

Two more Fleet players agreed loan moves this week, striker Charlie Sheringham joining Matt Johnson at Bishop's Stortford and winger Alex Osborn heading to Maidstone.
