Daryl McMahon admitted he was "devastated" to see Bath City's stoppage-time winner hit the back of the net at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Kaid Mohamed scored a wonder goal with 15 seconds left on the clock to inflict a third defeat of the season on the National League South leaders.

Two late goals in their previous league game at Hemel Hempstead had seen the Fleet come from behind to win 2-1 but the tables were turned on boss McMahon this time.

News from elsewhere softened the blow, however, with four of the five teams immediately below Ebbsfleet losing and the other drawing to keep them seven points clear.

McMahon said: "We had the joy of scoring the late winner again Hemel and we’re on the reverse of it today and it is frustrating.

"When it hits the back of the net it’s devastating, of course it is, because it’s the last minute of the game and I want to win. I don’t want to lose at home against anyone.

"I suppose when you see the results in the league it does take a bit of an edge off.

"It’s going to happen, we are going to lose games. I would just like our performances here to be better.

"The second-half performance lacked a little bit of cutting edge. I don’t think we’ve lacked it as much this season as we did in the second half so we need to do better."

Ebbsfleet drew a blank despite making an attacking change to their starting XI. Stuart Lewis missed his first league game since August to accommodate Jordan Parkes while there was a second home debut for returning winger Anthony Cook.

McMahon explained: "Jordan Parkes has got eight goals in 21 games. Kissock, Rance and Stuey Lewis haven’t got a goal.

"Jordan Parkes is the best goalscoring midfield player in this league and probably in non-league so I had to put him back in.

"It’s something we’ve spoken about throughout the season, that we need more goals from midfield. I’ve got no doubt that particularly Stuey will do that for us because he’s a good finisher when he gets in there, we just need to get him into the areas a bit more.

"You’ve got Cook and Haynes as well who you expect to give you some goals as well."

Ebbsfleet did everything but score in the first half - and ended up paying the price.

"I thought we had a good first half," McMahon said. "I was happy with the first half.

"I look at the performance in the first half and there was only going to be one winner.

"We had another gear to go and we’ve got to step on but it didn’t materialise for whatever reason. We’re at home and we’ve got to do better, simple as that."

Ebbsfleet are at home to Concord Rangers on Boxing Day (3pm).
