The wait to race again is nearly over for Northfleet's Brett Lidsey.

Lidsey is racing full-time this year in the prestigious Nurburgring Endurance Series with top German team Sorg Rennsport.

In 2019 he was fourth in the Renault UK Clio Cup in only his second full season, achieving two race wins and eight other podium results. The endurance racing rookie will be eager to show what he can do after a long wait for the season to begin.

It’s just over three months since Lidsey was due to make his debut in the series. The first of eight rounds takes place on Saturday at the famous German circuit.

Lidsey said: “I’m really excited to get going at the weekend, it’s been such a long time coming.

“It’s been frustrating over the last few months sitting on the sidelines with no racing and the lockdown in place, but it’s obviously been the right decision.

“When the world has been, and still is, dealing with something as serious as the coronavirus outbreak it puts motorsport – like all sports – in perspective. We’ve supported everything the organisers have done in rescheduling the season, now it’s time to start I’m absolutely raring to go.”

Lidsey, 28, will pilot the rear-wheel drive BMW M240i around the fearsome 24-kilometre Nurburgring-Nordschleife.

He had a test run last week with team-mates Ivan Berets and Kevin Wolters in what was the Kent racer's first run in the car since the March test day, but it wasn’t without problems.

Due to a number of red flag stoppages their time on track was limited and they also experienced a fuel pump issue.

Lidsey said: “The team did a great job to get it fixed straight away, but the delay still put us back an hour or so.

“When you’re sharing the car with two other people, it’s an eye-opener to how important it is to have days which run smoothly. If you’re all to get the equal seat time you need, having trouble free sessions is such a priority.

“We did manage to get four laps each and in mixed conditions as well, on a damp track which did dry, so it was good to see how the car reacts with wet tyres.”
