Steve Brown is confident his former Charlton team-mate Chris Powell will bounce back after being sacked by the Addicks this week.

Brown, appointed Ebbsfleet manager by the north Kent club’s Kuwaiti owners last summer, was "extremely disappointed" to see Powell replaced by Jose Riga on Tuesday.

He said: "I don’t think it’s warranted and I don't think it's justified. Chris has done an extremely good job, winning League 1 with record points and then finishing ninth (in the Championship) with no budget.

"Having to lose influential players across this season and replace them with players that he will see as sub-standard means you’re not able to do your job as well as you want.

"Another young English manager has lost his job to a foreign manager that has no knowledge of the Championship, or League 1, for that matter, if they go down.

"I’ve got an owner that’s bought into Ebbsfleet for the community side of it. But unfortunately we have a lot of owners coming in that want to tinker with clubs and they don’t care about the history. I hope that Charlton don’t go down that road.

"I’m extremely disappointed for Chris and I hope he gets an opportunity to go again."
