Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon on the 2-1 win over Woking

08:00, 21 February 2018

Manager Daryl McMahon hailed a "proper performance" from Ebbsfleet on Tuesday night.

So angry with their showing in the reverse fixture, McMahon demanded a response from his players and they delivered a professional display to earn a third straight National League win.

Fleet pressed high, were sensible in possession and took their chances when they came.

McMahon said: "It was a proper performance from us in every sense. We defended well, passed it well, were aggressive, on the front foot and I thought we looked a very good side.

"We tried to force them to go long. We felt Winfield and Clark would win the majority of their aerial duels, then you’ve got Rance, Payne and Drury for the seconds in midfield and then we can play. We did it quite well.

"They’re not a bad side, Woking, they’ve got some good players and Anthony Limbrick’s done a good job there in his first year. They’ve lost a few players to be fair to him so it was a good win.

"When you look at our starting XI with the experience and quality of player, it’s exciting to watch them play, even for me. I thought we ticked a lot of boxes of being a professional team with lots of quality as well."

Danny Kedwell scored both Fleet goals, ending an 11-game drought to move right back into contention for the National League golden boot.

"He’s been outstanding," McMahon said. "At his age (34) he plays 90 minutes every week and doesn’t miss a day’s training. He is incredible, defies sports science and he’s a joy to work with.

"He’s a real example to the younger players about how hard you’ve got to work and how you prepare for games."

Momentum is building with Fleet now just two points outside the play-offs.

"I think the performances are important," McMahon said. "That’s the tell-tale sign of a side that’s doing well. You can play well but lose a game but as long as you keep on performing...

"We’ve got 11 games to go now and we’re in 10th position. Being in the top 10 for us would be a great achievement in our first year in this league and we’ll see what happens.

"When you go up a league, the most important thing is to stay up. I know people can get carried away with different things but we’ve done that now and let’s see how high we can finish."
