Daryl McMahon admitted Ebbsfleet made hard work of their win at Eastleigh on Monday.

They beat the 10-man Spitfires 1-0 but should have been out of sight given the amount of clear chances they created.

And it was a nervy finale at the Silverlake Stadium as the visitors had to withstand some heavy pressure .

"Eastleigh's a tough place to come," said McMahon. "It was made easier by them going down to 10 men in the first half but we made hard work of it in the second half with the amount of chances we had and not taken them.

"It should have been a wake-up call (when they hit the bar in the first half) but I don't think it was because they scored after that from a set-piece and it was disallowed for offside.

"We were slow to start, then we got going and in the second half I don't know how many chances we had that we haven't taken. I don't mean half-chances, they're one-on-ones with the goalkeeper and we've got to score them.

"It was some good play to get in there but just make the game easier for yourselves. At the end of the day, it's a clean sheet and another win."

Luke Coulson was guilty of three bad misses after coming on for Ebou Adams at half-time.

McMahon said: "He should have had a hat-trick. His movement was brilliant and some of his play was excellent but he's got to score. He knows that.

"We know he's a top player at this level and he showed lots of qualities today when he came on but he's got to score those chances.

"You don't get given one-on-ones every week, not in this league, so when you get them you've got to take them.

"We probably had nine or 10 shots in the second half, and good ones, and it's disappointing we haven't taken one or two of them but to take six points over this Bank Holiday weekend is a great achievement."

Fleet are now sixth in the National League after Danny Kedwell's strike in first-half stoppage-time made it three wins in a row.

McMahon said: "I thought his touch to roll Boyce was excellent. He gave Ross Flitney the eyes and wrapped it in the near post, great goal.

"Keds is a top player at this level. He's the best target man in the league - there's no-one better at what he does."
