Ebbsfleet striker Charlie Sheringham may not play again until February after having a groin operation.

The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 22 appearances since joining the Fleet in the summer although he hasn't found the net in his last six outings - a run stretching back to October.

Sheringham started all but one of the 18 league games Steve Brown took charge of before he was sacked last month although he found himself on the bench when Daryl McMahon took over as caretaker manager.

McMahon paired Billy Bricknell and Matt Godden in attack for the FA Trophy tie against Hendon and the 4-0 win at Maidenhead in Conference South.

Sheringham's name didn't appear on the team sheet for Saturday's local derby against Welling in the Trophy and McMahon explained why after the game.

He said: "Charlie had a groin operation on Thursday. He’s had a Gilmore's Groin or a Sportsman's Hernia – there are two different names for it - but he won’t be available for six to seven weeks.

"He’s been carrying it for a while and he hasn’t really been training for the last couple of weeks, hence probably why he hasn’t played while I’ve been in charge.

"Hopefully he gets back in the new year and he’s back to his best."

With Ben May having not featured all season, Bricknell and Godden are the only fit centre-forwards new Fleet boss Jamie Day has available for Tuesday's replay against Welling at Park View Road.
