Ebbsfleet United striker Charlie Sheringham signs a new deal but defender Anthony Acheampong is released

Charlie Sheringham has signed a new deal at Ebbsfleet but Anthony Acheampong is being released.

Sheringham, 28, joined the club two years ago but has struggled with injuries and started just three league games last season.

But he looked bright coming off the bench towards the end of the season and his overall goal record for the club is good - 16 from 25 starts.

Sheringham is one of three strikers in manager Daryl McMahon's squad alongside Danny Kedwell and Aaron McLean.

Matt Godden left Ebbsfleet to join Stevenage earlier this month.

A club statement said: "Fleet boss Daryl McMahon is near to tying up his final squad prior to the players reporting back for pre-season and is hoping to close in on a striker before that time."

Centre-half Acheampong leaves the club having made 83 appearances and scored four times since joining from Barnet in February 2014.

The 25-year-old started 24 games in National League South last season, since when Ebbsfleet have signed Dave Winfield and Mark Phillips - who both play in Acheampong's position.
