Ebbsfleet winger Jephte Tanga believes he has what it takes to impress at National League level.

The 20-year-old winger impressed in National League South during loan spells with Welling and Maidstone last term.

It was enough to convince the Fleet to bring in Tanga after he was released by Leyton Orient in the summer.

It’s not easy to shine when a team has lost five of their first six matches but Tanga has been a bright spark having started the last two games.

“I wanted to step up, I knew I wanted to go up a level,” said Tanga.

“I know I can play [at] this level and I know I’m capable of doing it. It’s about showing people that I’m really capable.

“Last season people saw that I’m able to play a good amount of games so I’m trying to keep building myself and get as many games as I can and improve.

“I know with time and the more games that I play, that confidence will grow. Eventually, when things start going right for the team, confidence will grow in the team as well.

“It’s difficult, it’s not like we’re playing badly, things are just not going our way at the moment.

“Little deflections are falling to their players rather than us but, as the gaffer said, in these moments things go against you and you have to stick together and keep working. Things will turn.”

Tanga’s progress at Stonebridge Road was initially halted by an injury in pre-season. But his direct running has been a key feature of Ebbsfleet’s play in their last two games.

“Pre-season was a big setback,” conceded Tanga. “I was doing well when I first came in and got injured out in Spain. It was a tough one to take but I kept my head down and kept working.

“Thankfully the gaffer gave me the opportunity to come and showcase myself so I’m grateful and thankful.

“It was a tough game against Halifax, we played well and there was that one moment in the game that let us down. We dominated the whole game but they had something to defend and they made it tough for us.

“The performance is there, it’s just the result now. We’ve got to keep going, keep training hard and I know things will turn around.

“We’ve got good leaders, we’ve got to stick together and it’s not an individual game. We can’t just keep playing well and things not turn around. I just want that first win.”
