Cheavon Clarke's Olympic dream was shattered on points at the last 16 stage in Tokyo on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old from Gravesend was beaten by Abner Teixeira with four of the five judges giving the contest to the Brazilian.
Team GB's Clarke made a bright start to the first round before both boxers exchanged a series of body shots, three of the five judges giving Clarke the round on points.
Four of the judges thought Teixeira had the better of the second round when both boxers again exchanged a series of body shots, the Brazilian landing a couple of rights but there seemed little between the pair going into the final round.
Clarke still wasn't having it his own way in a scrappy third round, he was continually warned to lift his head by the referee during the fight. Clarke seemed to be the more positive boxer but Teixeira edged it for the judges and progressed to the quarter-finals.
