Garry Hill is confident he can keep Ebbsfleet competitive in the National League on a reduced budget next season.

The manager faces “a very tough summer” as Fleet’s new financial structure kicks in but insists he’s up to the challenge.

Talks with players will begin after Saturday’s game at Bromley with Hill making decisions in the club’s best interests.

“There’s a lot of players out of contract,” he said. “Some players are on contract for another season and we’re looking to be a lot more stable and living within our means, which has been made quite clear by the boss (chairman Dr Abdulla Al-Humaidi).

“There’s been a certain amount of naivety by certain people, who can put their hands up and be honest but I’ve got a very tough summer. It’s something I relish.

“I will sit down and the boss will tell us what he’d like and what he expects going forward as a management team and as a football club.

“I’d like to feel I’ll be going forward under the boss with my staff and a playing squad to be competitive next season.

“As long as it’s confirmed what I’ve been told at the moment, I’m happy with that. I have no problem with that.

“There are always people who hear certain amounts and take decisions to say certain things without even hearing two sides of anything.”

Ebbsfleet’s play-off hopes ended on Easter Monday but a win at Bromley would see them get to within four points of last season’s tally.

Hill said: “I’ve talked to the players and the members of staff. We will go to Bromley on Saturday and we will try our best to get a good result, and then we take a view going forward as a football club.

“What I’ve always said, with the non-contracted players and the contracted players, I’ll be as honest as I can be with everybody going forward as soon as I think it’s right to let them know, to be fair to them and their families and also to be fair to me and everyone connected with Ebbsfleet United Football Club.

“There’s a certain amount of restrictions still with players on contract but there will be a certain amount of movement, which is understandable, whether that’s down to playing squad decisions or football management decisions.

“It’s a completely different transition now. I’ve got a situation where we are working in respect of a structure financially which is going to be completely different.

“It’s amazing what the financial difference is going to be but I’m aware of that and we go from there.

“As long as I know where I am, I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
