Six players scored tries as Gravesend returned to form with a 45-3 thrashing of London Cornish in Regional 2 South East.

In all, seven tries were scored by the hosts as they bounced back from the previous week’s defeat to Sidcup. Only one came from the usually-dominant forwards, though, in front of the watching mayor of Gravesham, Gurdip Bungar, and local MP Adam Holloway.

After a bright start by Gravesend it was the Cornishmen who took the points on offer when the hosts were penalised for backchat after 15 minutes.

It wasn’t long, though, before Gs responded and Harry Brooker dived over from close range. George Bruce was also among the tries - scoring after a dummy break - for a 19-3 lead at the interval.

Some fine, flowing moves saw second-half touchdowns for Jamie Fautley, Josh Smith (2) and Chris Brady. Not even ill-discipline, which saw Gravesend go down to 13 men for the final stages, could dampen the day as the defence, which was resolute throughout, kept Cornish out.

Gravesend, 10th in the table, visit eighth-placed Sutton & Epsom on Saturday.
