Ebbsfleet have still not completed their FA Trophy tie against Welling after Tuesday’s replay was postponed because of a power failure.

Following a 1-1 draw on Saturday, the local rivals reconvened at Park View Road.

The floodlights went out approximately an hour before kick-off and although they came back on, other areas of the ground - including the changing-rooms and bar - remained in darkness. Players from both teams stood around on the pitch and supporters were locked outside as Welling tried to get the lights back on.

But no solution could be found in time, meaning new Fleet manager Jamie Day’s long goodbye to his old club will now be even more drawn-out.

"It was a strange night," he said. "I’d rather have just got the game done and out of the way and played.

"I’ve never been in this situation before, it’s a new one, but we’ll train on Thursday and then look forward to Saturday. We just want to get the game out of the way now. I think it builds it up more than it needs to be.

"We’re just looking to get through in the Trophy and then concentrate on the league. I’d like to have got it done and dusted but we’ve got to go again."

Day has at least had time with his new squad on the training pitch at Cobdown this week.

He said: "I took training on Monday and it’s a good bunch of lads with good team spirit.

"Obviously my job now is to get over what I want and how we want to play from now until the end of the season. We want want to get the boys quickly into the routine of how we work. They all looked as though they want to listen and learn, which is a good starting point. Now it’s my job to work with them and get the best out of them.

"We need to play with a high tempo – with the ball and without the ball, to get it back. We like to pass the ball forward early, on the floor, and we like to be nice and positive. They’re the key factors that we’ll try to get over at the training ground."

Day's first game in charge will now be the visit of Weston-super-Mare in the Vanarama Conference South on Saturday. Kick-off at the PHB Stadium is at 3pm.
