Bomb disposal teams were called in after a wartime device was dug up on farmland.
Police were contacted following the discovery of the shell on land in Reculver, near Herne Bay, on Sunday.
Officers say they attended alongside an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Ministry of Defence.
Experts examined the device and found it to be an inactive wartime shell, which was later disposed of.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said: “We can confirm that on 16 March 24, Shorncliffe Troop, 621 EOD Sqn, 11 EOD&S Regt RLC, responded to a suspect item of ordnance, at the request of Kent Police.
“The EOD team assessed the item and determined it to be an inert 105mm shell.
“The shell was returned to the unit for later disposal.”
A police spokesperson added: “Kent Police was contacted shortly after 11am on Sunday 17 March following the discovery of suspected wartime ordnance on farmland near Reculver.
“Officers attended along with an EOD team from the Ministry of Defence, who dealt with the objects.”
It was a busy day for police in the area, who tweeted to say they had also dealt with nuisance youths trespassing in Ash and gave crime prevention advice to residents in Chillenden.
