A special service is being held tonight following the death of a teenager on a railway line last week.

Taiyah-Grace Peebles, died at Herne Bay railway station on Wednesday. It is believed that the 16-year-old was electrocuted.

Churches of Herne Bay are inviting residents to a service this evening from 8pm to 10pm at Christ Church in William Street "to pray for the youth of Herne Bay, to light a candle, to talk to someone or pray especially in light of the recent tragedy at Herne Bay railway station".

BTP officers have remained in the area this weekend to offer reassurances to a community shocked by Taiyah's tragic death.

It comes as a fundraising page set up in her memory nears the halfway mark in its target of £3,000.

The page, set up by Kristi Yvonne Hills, reads: "After the loss of Taiyah, I wanted to set this up to help her loving family have one less thing to worry about while they are processing her passing.

"Taiyah was loved by many and that shows from the out pour of condolences on her Facebook page and her mums and siblings.

"Taiyah deserves the biggest and bestest send off to celebrate her life."

A post mortem examination took place on Friday and although the British Transport Police are awaiting the final report, they believe she was electrocuted. Her death is no longer being treated as suspicious.

Taiyah-Grace’s family expressed their thanks for everyone's kind words and asked that their privacy is respected at this time.

Tributes have been left at the station and on social media by friends expressing their sadness at her loss and a vigil was held at the clock tower.
