Drunk couple arrested in Herne Bay after child runs in road
00:01, 17 December 2015
A drunk couple were arrested in Herne Bay after a child ran into the road outside the Co-op store.
Police intervened and a man and woman were questioned on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and drunk in charge of a child.
Spokesman Jon Green said: “There was a disturbance as officers intervened with a couple who appeared to be drunk with three young children.
“The children were taken to a nearby relative to be looked after.”
The couple - not confirmed to be the parents of the children - were taken into police custody and later cautioned for being drunk in charge of a child.
Meanwhile, officers had been called to the same store just 10 minutes earlier after fears were raised for the welfare of an elderly woman with dementia who had been in the shop and left.
She was found safe and well a short while later.
But police were called back to the Co-op shortly before 8pm after a man stole cheese, tea and coffee worth £20.
The suspect is described as white, aged over 50, of skinny build, 5ft 7in to 5ft 8in tall, with grey hair, bald on top and short at the sides, grey stubble and glasses with a thick, black frame.
He was wearing a black Barbour-style coat, dark blue denim jeans, black trainers with white sole and was carrying a green shopping bag.
