Thomas Cook accidentally book Herne Bay man John Moore and his wife on 18-30 clubbing holiday to Zante, Greece

A 56-year-old hoping to enjoy a relaxing sunshine break with his wife was stunned to find himself booked into a hotel for young clubbers.

John Moore had expected a tranquil week away when he and his wife Angela flew to the Greek island of Zante with Thomas Cook.

But the travel agent mistakenly booked them on an Escapades break – its equivalent of Club 18-30.

The Moores, of Canterbury Road, Herne, were forced to switch hotels twice after finding themselves surrounded by boozed-up youngsters.

Their holiday from hell this week won them an apology from the travel firm and a compensation payout.

“It was packed with youngsters banging on the walls and screaming and shouting. The following morning we got up,and decided to find somewhere else more to our liking” - John Moore

Parish councillor Mr Moore said: “The apartment block was full of youngsters for an 18 to 30 holiday.

It was booked with Thomas Cook, with their coaches, reps, everything, but it turned out it to be with a subdivision called Escapades.

“When we got there I asked the rep if he really thought I would book an 18-30 holiday.

“I complained to the owner of the apartments because the rooms were in a state. Young people might not complain about it, but for us it wasn’t acceptable.

“The rep from Escapades moved us to a new hotel, which was even worse as it was an official Club 18-30 resort.

The couple stayed at a new hotel for the rest of his holiday, but when they returned to the UK Mr Moore lodged a complaint against Thomas Cook, threatening county court action to get his money back.

Mr Moore initially snubbed a £200 offer from the travel agent, but accepted £400 this week.

A Thomas Cook spokesman said: “We would like to apologise to Mr Moore for any inconvenience he may have experienced while staying at the Christina Studios in Zante with our Escapades brand in September 2014.

“It is never our intention to disappoint our customers and we are happy to say this matter has now been resolved to his satisfaction.”
