A disabled golfer is disgusted after Herne Bay Golf Club refused to let him ride his buggy on the course.

Basil Brazier, 76, has not been able to play without the ride-on scooter since a serious operation on his knee two years ago.

Now the great-grandfather of eight from Greenhill says the ruling means he cannot play on his local course.

Apparently the restriction is applied because of risks posed by the course landscape.

Mr Brazier, of Chestnut Drive, said: “I’ve played on lots and lots of courses all over the area and I have never had a problem.”

The secretary of Herne Bay Golf Club refused to comment on the issue.

But a colleague explained they were governed by a health and safety audit that concluded such buggies posed a risk to the rider because of the landscape of the course.
