A driver who crushed a man three times with his truck and drove away laughing has been jailed for 15 years.

Friends of Billy Lloyd, sitting in the public gallery, gasped as Judge Rupert Thorpe told him his revenge attack was callous.

Lloyd, 26, of The Paddocks, Ford Road, Broomfield was convicted of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The victim, Samuel Dudley, told a jury how Lloyd drove at him twice before then driving over his legs, laughing and leaving him in agony on the ground.

Mr Dudley was later flown to hospital after revealing how “every bone in both legs were broken”.

The jury heard how a feud began between Mr Dudley and Lloyd’s twin brother over what the judge said was a trivial incident with a dog.

Prosecutor Ian Hope told Canterbury Crown Court that two or three weeks before the incident in 2016, Mr Dudley had been driving along Ford Road, Herne Bay.

A dog ran across the road, forcing Mr Dudley to brake hard – and minutes later he had a row with the dog’s owner, Lloyd’s twin brother, Gary.

He claimed Gary told him: “If you run my dog over...I’ll run you over”, alleging he was "spitting with anger".

Mr Hope added that on May 8, Mr Dudley was driving along Margate Road with his girlfriend in the car when he spotted Billy Lloyd coming in the opposite direction.

Mr Dudley told the jury how he saw Lloyd, who was also with a woman and child, turn his truck around and head back to where he had stopped.

“I could see he was shouting aggressively and pointing for me to pull over. I got out of my vehicle and stood near the boot.

“I was expecting him to stop and get out so we could talk things out, but he drove towards me at between 20 to 25 mph.

“He just didn’t stop. I grabbed hold of the bonnet but he squashed me between his truck and my car.”

Mr Dudley claimed: “I shouted and screamed: ’Stop the car’. But it didn’t stop. The engine was revving and I was trapped.”

He said that Dudley then reversed and struck him on his legs forcing him to collapse to the ground and as he tried to find refuge under his car, the truck drove over his legs.

He told the jury: “I was in pain..and as he drove away he stopped the truck and I could hear him laughing.”

Mr Dudley was taken to hospital where doctors put pins into both his legs and he needed physiotherapy for 18 months.

The judge jailed him for 15 years and then told Lloyd would also serve an extra four years on licence when he is released.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve Day said: "There is no acceptable reason for Lloyd’s actions and the subsequent awful injuries he caused to the victim that day, and what is most horrifying about the behaviour is that there was no doubt he intended to cause serious harm.

"I thank the victim for his courage in supporting this case while overcoming such an ordeal which would leave most people terrified.

"The chilling actions of Lloyd that day have been recognised by the court as so severe that he is now facing a long time in prison."
