A racist gran tasered a shopkeeper in the face in a drunken attack in front of stunned customers.

Sozzled Koren McCairn stormed into the Herne Bay Food Store and started rowing with victim Azad Mukhuris over an alleged relationship between him and a member of her family.

McCairn, 52, from High Street, Ramsgate, shouted “I want to talk to him” as the shocked shopkeeper was serving a customer.

Canterbury Crown Court heard how she called Mr Mukhuris a “f***** foreign P***” before saying she was going to “beat him up” outside the High Street shop.

Prosecutor Mary Jacobson said McCairn then punched her victim before taking a taser from her pocket, turning it on and hitting him in the face with it.

“He heard a noise and it felt as though he had received an electric shock. As the customer fled the shop McCairn once again struck the victim, causing his body to shake and left him in a lot of pain,” she added.

Mr Mukhuris then armed himself with a bottle and threw it at McCairn to get her out of the shop before he took refuge at the back of the premises, the court heard.

The police were called and found McCairn outside the shop “unsteady on her feet and her eyes were glazed”, the court heard.

McCairn then attempted to take a black object from her waistband but the officer grabbed her arm and discovered a black plastic stun gun tucked into the band, said Ms Jacobson.

She told officers: “It’s a torch stun gun. I got it off the internet for protection.”

McCairn was given a 12-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, after admitting possessing an offensive weapon and carrying out a racially aggravated beating in May.

Peter Alcock, defending, said she is now remorseful and at the time was “particularly sensitive” because of the background to the incident.

She entered guilty pleas after her lawyers asked for a sentencing indication that she would not go straight to jail.

Judge Adele Williams told her: “You could have no complaints if I sent you to prison immediately.

“You behaved in a thoroughly irresponsible fashion, aggravated by the fact you obtained this stun gun or taser via the internet and had it on this occasion.

“Your racist language was entirely unacceptable and is abhorrent to right-thinking members of society.”

McCairn was also banned from going to the store for the next year.
