The rail operator said services between Faversham and Ramsgate were initially unable to run in either direction.

It later posted on social media that Margate trains are unable to call at Herne Bay and may be diverted.

But Southeastern has since confirmed lines have reopened.

An update on its website states: "Whilst service recovers, trains between Faversham and Ramsgate may be amended to not call at some stations, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.

"Disruption is expected to continue until 3pm."
