A new crime drama filmed in Kent starring Game of Thrones actress Sophie Turner is to hit TV screens.
Joan, a six-part series which is based on the true story of notorious jewel thief Joan Hannington, will see the Emmy-nominated 28-year-old in the lead role and will feature scenes shot in Herne Bay last year.
Set to air on ITV and ITVX, the broadcaster has confirmed it will reach our screens in September, more than a year after Turner was spotted in the seaside town.
Production vehicles took over the Central Parade car park in May 2023, with crews spotted filming in Avenue Road and on the beach opposite the clocktower.
Classic cars were also brought in to help create a retro look for the show, which is set in the 1980s.
Turner rose to fame playing Sansa Stark in the fantasy series Game of Thrones, and has also appeared in two X-Men movies.
She was seen filming one scene on a bench near Neptune’s Arm.
Regarding the new series, she said: “I’m so excited to be bringing Joan Hannington’s fascinating life story to screen in Joan.
“She is one of the most notorious figures in the criminal underworld of London, earning her the nickname ‘The Godmother’.
“A woman who goes between her thriving and daring career as a jewel thief, all whilst trying to get her daughter back from social services, we see a mother in despair swept up in the exhilarating world of crime.”
Alongside her will be Harry Potter actor Frank Dillane.
Created by Anna Symon, the show will document the life of Joan Hannington, starting in her 20s as she transitions from a housewife to diamond thief.
