A teenager has been arrested following a large-scale police hunt.

The 17-year-old boy was tracked down after armed police, police helicopter and dog units were deployed around Herne Bay.

The search was sparked after a car failed to stop for police at around 4.30pm in Canterbury Road.

Almost immediately afterwards, the car crashed into another vehicle and then came to a stop, and the occupants ran off on foot.

A police chopper circled the area for around an hour, while sniffer dogs were spotted in the cemetery off Canterbury Road.

Armed police units who were also in the area attended to assist with enquiries.

Following a search, the 17-year-old suspect was located and arrested.

There are two damaged vehicles – a truck and a Nissan Juke – near the site.

Officers have been seen examining the damage to the flat-top van.

A police spokeswoman said: "We attended the Canterbury Road area of Herne Bay after a car failed to stop when requested to do so by officers at around 4.30pm today.

"The suspect car was then involved in a collision with another vehicle before coming to a stop. The occupants left the car on foot however a 17-year-old boy has since been found and arrested in connection with the incident.

"He remains in custody while enquiries are ongoing."
