Airshow organisers have revealed their disappointment after a historic display in Herne Bay to reunite the last two airworthy Lancaster bombers was cancelled.

The Bay Promo Team said they received a call yesterday to say flypasts by the Lancasters as well as Hurricane and Spitfire planes was unable to take place today due to high winds.

The Bay Day Air Display is one of 60 shows to reunite the last two airworthy Lancaster planes for the first time in 50 years as part of the RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The website reads: "We have just taken a call to inform us that the BBMF element of the Bay Day Air Display (Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancasters) are unable to appear tomorrow due to the high winds and that all scheduled appearances for the day have been cancelled.

"Obviously it’s a great shame, but we understand that the safety of the planes and the crew are paramount.

"At this time all the other elements of the display are as planned, including the parachute jump, Typhoon, Turbulent Team and Stunt Plane.

"If anything changes we will inform everyone here first."

Live music from XYZ and Rubber Biscuit is still scheduled to take place at the clock tower from 3pm.
