An adverturous cat made a 140-mile round trip after jumping into strangers’ cars and traveling from Kent to London and back again.

Ginger tabby cat, Sox, first hitched a ride from Herne Bay to Whitstable, before hopping into another vehicle bound for south London.

The fearless feline’s owner and Herne Bay resident, Jessica Roe, says Sox has a history for going on solo escapades, and has picked him up from swimming pools, restaurants and a nightclub in the past.

“I tell people he has a better social life than me, you can’t keep him inside - he just loves people,” said the mum-of-two.

“I was visiting my mother on Sunday afternoon when I guess he went over to a car for cuddles, so they cuddled with him for a while and then they thought that he had got out the car but actually he was still inside and they drove home to Whitstable.

“When they realised, all the vets had already closed, so they let him have a sleepover with them and the following morning they tried to take him to the vet, but then he ran off.”

It was in Whitstable that Sox, almost one year old, made his transfer to another car heading to the capital.

Jacqui O'Connor was on her way home to Wallington, London, after a beach day on the Kent coast when she noticed the cat.

“She told me she was half-way home to when she saw his head pop up in between the seats - her hands came off the steering wheel and she swerved a bit, it’s lucky she didn’t have an accident,” added Ms Roe.

“He usually just stays in Herne Bay, he’s been to Herne Bay swimming pool, I’ve had bouncers from a nightclub ring me to say he’s there.

“But this day by accident he went to Whitstable and then somehow got into another car that was going to London, it’s crazy he just thinks it’s a free taxi ride.”

To record her pet’s adventures and to seek help getting him home safely after his adventures, Ms Roe created a Facebook page called ‘Sox the explorer and friendly kitten’.

A link to the page was stored on Sox’ microchip, which is how Ms Roe found out that her cat had travelled much further than usual.

“A really kind man who follows the Facebook page offered to drop Sox off back home,” continued Ms Roe.

“We were so happy to have him back home again, I let the boys stay awake to see him because they were so excited.

“I’ve tried to ground him, but he’s already tried to get in the car when we were heading to the beach and I’ve heard that he’s been visiting the school today.”
