As teenagers prepare to party after their GCSEs, one has set his sights on a remarkable solo voyage.

Jack Daly is to navigate his way around 1,500 miles of coastline as he circumnavigates Great Britain.

The 16-year-old, from Herne Bay, sets sail on June 21, the day after his last exam.

He said: “I’m looking at about eight weeks but 10 is my cut-off because that’s when I go back to school.

“For two years I’ve been talking about sailing round Britain – it’s something I’ve always fancied – and I thought if I don’t do it now, while I don’t have other commitments, I may never do it.”

“My main reason for doing it is to raise as much money as possible for Sailability, which I think is a great cause. I’m hoping to raise £5,000.”

Sailability is a charity that provides people with disabilities the chance to get out on the water and experience the thrill of sailing.

Support Jack’s journey and donate to his Sailability cause by logging on to his website www.sail-the-dream.co.uk

For anyone not online, cheques made out to RYA Sailability can be sent to Morna Hughes, RYA House, Ensign Way, Hamble, Southampton SO31 4YA.
