Main road closed due to flooding

PART of the new Thanet Way has been shut in both directions due to flooding since midnight.
At 5pm yesterday a green Vauxhall Astra lost control on the coastbound carriageway of the A299 at the Canterbury Road junction, Herne Bay.
It is believed the car aquaplaned on a pool of water and crashed into the central reservation.
The road was closed while emergency vehicles were at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and no serious injuries were reported.
The road was reopened last night but water continued to collect on the surface.
Both carriageways were eventually closed and remain so this morning. Diversions through Herne and Broomfield are in place.
It is believed roadside pumps used to collect excess water have broken down.
