A299 Thanet Way shut for almost three hours after crash near Herne Bay

A busy road was closed for almost three hours after a crash amid yesterday's heatwave.

Emergency services were called to the A299 Thanet Way near Herne Bay following the collision involving two vans.

The incident happened shortly before 7.30pm yesterday and there were long delays.

Temperatures in Herne Bay peaked at 34C in Herne Bay on Monday, according to the Met Office. Fortunately it dropped to 28C by 7pm.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended and assisted with traffic management while the vehicles involved were recovered. No serious injuries were reported.

"The coastbound carriageway was closed while the incident was responded to and reopened shortly before 10pm."

A spokesman for the ambulance service confirmed paramedics assessed a patient at the scene and "no one required further hospital treatment".
