A mask-wearing robber stole cigarettes from a branch of Tesco Express after threatening an employee with a knife.
Police were called to the supermarket in Sea Street, Herne Bay, following the terrifying raid.
Detectives were told a member of staff had been threatened by a man holding a blade, but that no one had been injured.
They have released images of a man who they believe may be able to help their investigation. It is hoped people will recognise him by his clothing.
The robbery happened at about 8pm last Tuesday (August 4).
A police spokesman said: "Residents with private CCTV or vehicle dashcam in the area are also asked to check their recordings to see if anything has been captured that would assist enquiries."
Officers are urging anyone with information to phone them on 01843 222289, quoting the reference number 46/135643/20, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
