A man who raped a woman after she blacked out during a drinking session has been jailed for 10 years.

Haider Ali, of St Andrews Close, Whitstable, struck as his victim drifted in an out of consciousness at a house in Herne Bay.

Judge Catherine Brown told the remorseless 30-year-old he poses “a significant risk of serious harm to women and possibly men”.

His victim attended the sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court and told of the lasting effects of the sex assault

She said in a statement: “I don’t understand [how I am] meant to feel about sex anymore; the attack has left me confused.

“I have found myself consenting to sex I didn’t want because the man will just take what he likes.

“I felt very uncomfortable around men who are middle eastern or Asian, because they were of similar ethnicity to Ali.

“I knew these feelings were wrong - it made me feel like a racist.

“I even cancelled a doctors' appointment because the doctor’s voice reminded me of Ali.

“For a few months after I was attacked I found going out the house difficult - I was worried I might see Ali.”

A jury took an hour and 15 minutes to find Ali guilty after he argued the victim had plotted against him because "there is something wrong in her head".

He was drunk and high on cocaine and viagra when he attacked the intoxicated woman in her sleep, the trial heard.

She passed out during the drinking binge at her home, then woke during the assault.

After kicking Ali out she would go on to send him two texts; “Why did you do that?” and “I woke up naked, why? I told you 'no' Ali”.

Ali whipped himself into a sexual frenzy in the hours leading to the attack, the jury heard.

He became embroiled in graphic internet conversations with two men, whom he arranged to meet in Herne Bay for sex, but trained his sights on the victim when plans colapsed.

The predator sought out the woman at about midnight and they drank vodka into the early hours before she blacked out.

Judge Brown told Ali he showed a “complete lack of remorse” and “habitually took a risk-taking approach".

He could be seen in the dock shaking his head in denial throughout the hearings.

“I consider there is a significant risk of serious harm to women and possibly men,” the judge added.

Mitigating, Michael Field argued Ali was a devoted father respected by his family.

His partner - the mother of his two children - was in the public gallery for sentencing and has vowed to stand by him during his time behind bars.

Ali was unanimously found guilty of rape and two counts of sexual assault following the trial.
