Mob attack three teenagers
00:00, 02 May 2002
A TERRIFYING mob attack on three teenagers has left one with five stitches in the back of his head and shards of glass embedded in his leather jacket.
James Timcke, 16, his 13-year-old brother Sam and a female friend aged 14 have spoken of the horrific assault as they returned from ten-pin bowling in Whitstable.
The three said they got off the bus at Herne Bay train station at 9.30pm on Saturday evening.
They were then approached by a gang of about 15 youths aged between 14 and 17, one of who punched James to the floor.
Sam then ran through the tunnel towards Eddington Lane, where he called his father from a mobile telephone and tried to flag down three car drivers, none of whom stopped.
James managed to run after his brother, then realised the girl wasn't following and went back to find her being assaulted by the group.
James and the girl were then chased through the tunnel, James was hit again and kicked and punched while on the floor, leaving him with bruised ribs. The girl was left with scratches to the back and bruising to her face.
James also said he was hit with broken glasses and metal objects, causing the wound to the back of his head, he and the girl managed to escape and ran, with Sam, to a house in Eddington Lane.
The residents there called an ambulance, meanwhile Mr and Mrs Timcke arrived, as did the police. Mrs Timcke said the family were in shock as they had moved to Herne Bay from London looking to give their children a peaceful life.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack and have released a description of one of the suspects. He is described as a teenage male of Afro-Carribean appearance, aged about 17. He is 5ft 10ins with short brown hair. He was wearing a light grey long-sleeved T-shirt and dark jeans.
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 01227 762055.
