A man was repeatedly punched in the face during an apparently unprovoked assault on board a train which also left a woman injured.
The incident happened between 11.25pm and midnight on Friday, on a train travelling from Margate to Faversham.
Two men boarded the service at Herne Bay station, and approached a man and a woman who were sat at a table seat.
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "The men started to aggressively intimidate the couple before punching the man in the face repeatedly.
"The woman was also struck as she attempted to prevent further violence.
"At Swalecliffe station the victims moved to a different carriage. However, the two men followed them, assaulting the man further and threatening him by intimating they had a knife."
Both men then got off the train at Swalecliffe station.
The victims were left with minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
A 19-year-old man from Faversham was arrested at the scene in connection with this incident, on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm.
He was later released under investigation as enquiries continue.
