Some of the country’s best cartoonists and comic artists will be returning to Herne Bay for a festival this weekend.

Last year cartoonists were part of the Marcel Duchamp Festival, which drew large crowds to the Central Bandstand on the seafront.

This year they are set to return for another helping, with demonstrations, workshops and exhibitions.

Organiser Nathan Ariss said he has arranged for some of the country’s favourite cartoonists such as Martin Rowson, Dave Brown and Steve Bell to return, alongside local Gazette favourite Royston Robertson.

He said: “Herne Bay is a brilliant place for a live event like this.

“Last year we had 25 top cartoonists, some of whom performed various themes such as comics, political and comedy sketches.

“It’s quite a big national event for a local town, and while Whitstable has its artists, maybe we can make Herne Bay the place for cartoons.”

The festival will be based at the Central Bandstand with a series of workshops on Sunday, August 3 from 2pm to 5pm.

There will also be exhibitions and family workshops at Beach Creative in Beach Street, with Tim Harries giving a free workshop on Saturday, August 2, from 3pm to 5pm.
